Both of my parents still live and work and on the border for the U.S. government. My father's family was in the import/ export business, mostly to Mexico; machinery parts and the sort. He served in the U.S . Army during Vietnam as a nurse and was in the U.S. Navy for many years, I remember he was in the Naval Reserve for about thirty years afterwards. He is now a member of what used to be called I.N.S. (Immigration & Naturalization Service), and is now called "Homeland Security" and has been working on the U.S. side for about twenty years serving in Laredo and Eagle Pass, Texas.
My mother's family is oriented towards community; healthcare, education & service. My mother has worked in the Social Security Administration Office for many years, helping indigenous elderly and injured people receive benefits and learn ways to survive along the border.
So far, I have lived, worked and studied on both U.S. coasts (Boston, MA & Los Angeles, CA). These places are also frontiers, only not to Mexico like in my hometowns, but to other continents. It was here that I became exposed to the cultures of England and Europe on the East coast and on the West Coast, I accessed all of Asia. These experiences opened new "frontiers" and helped create a larger world view for myself and my art making process.
I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts & Massachusetts College of Art where I studied Painting & Printmaking and S.I.M. (Studio for Interrelated Media).
